Electing Lisa Bender is a Smart Decision for Somers Point's Future

Lisa Bender has served the City of Somers Point in a volunteer capacity as a chairperson for a committee and a commission since 2014. She has experience working with and for other municipalities as ACUA's Atlantic County Recycling Coordinator and grant writer, a consultant for sustainability projects, and as an environmental specialist focusing on communications for the City of Ocean City.

AND...

YOU KNOW OUR CITY NEEDS FRESH ENERGY! LISA WILL BRING FRESH ENERGY!

WE DON'T NEED MORE OF THE SAME! WE DON'T NEED POLITICIANS! WE NEED A PERSON WHO TRULY CARES ABOUT SOMERS POINT, NOT ABOUT A TITLE.

LISA WANTS TO SERVE BECAUSE SHE KNOWS SHE CAN TRULY HELP THE CITY WITH HER UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE AND SKILLS.

SHE IS A MOTHER OF SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN, AND THAT ALONE BRINGS FRESH PERSPECTIVE.

SHE IS A SCIENTIST AND AN ARTIST. SHE CONSIDERS OTHER POINTS OF VIEW.

SHE CAN DO THIS! LET THE CURRENT COUNCIL KNOW YOU ARE READY FOR CHANGE THAT REFLECTS CITIZENS' NEEDS BY VOTING FOR LISA!

Elect Lisa Bender to Somers Point City Council

Lisa Bender is working hard to earn the opportunity to serve the citizens of Ward One as their City Council Representative.

Lisa has served Somers Point as chairperson of the City Council-appointed Green Advisory Committee since 2014 and Mayoral-appointed Environmental Commission since 2015 and continues to hold these positions. She was also a den leader and volunteer with Cub Scout Pack 87 for five years and currently supports her two sons as they seek to become Eagle Scouts with Somers Point Boy Scout Troop 55.

Besides being a busy mother of two and wife of an Ocean City Firefighter, she is a real estate agent, so knows the community very well.

Lisa really got to know the area when she joined AmeriCorps—the Corporation for National and Community Service and served as Great Egg Harbor River Watershed Ambassador.

Working for the community

Somers Point is a fantastic place! When it comes to a shore town, we have it all—dining, entertainment, shopping, a beach, boat ramps, and our very own marina. Our parks offer beautiful places for play and rest as well as locations to gather the community.

With theses great resources, it's no wonder that Somers Point is a must-see destination for those visiting and living in Cape May and Atlantic Counties.

As great as it is to serve the whole area, we must always remember that City Government should first and foremost serve its citizens.

The best way to serve our citizens is to:
  • Prioritize Clear Communication
  • Grow Transparency in Government
  • Ensure Efficiency
  • Identify Ways to Include Everyone
Some of Lisa's Ideas for Somers Point:

  • Create Best Practices Manual for all City Departments

  • Institute procedure to follow up council meetings with plain-language memoranda to department heads re: actions taken at meeting

  • Have a Somers Point City Newsletter - Residents can sign up online

  • Create network of ALL committee and commission chairs to share ideas and plan events for the City (ensuring no violation of Open Public Meetings Act)

  • Ensure the City's website (somerspointgov.org) is up to date and has a strategy in place to keep it up to date

  • Work with Zoning and Planning officers as well as Construction Officials and City Clerk to create plain-language checklists that streamline permitting processes and information requests

  • Make all checklists, permit applications, and information request forms available on the City's website

  • Create professional-looking brochures to highlight our community resources and programs, along with the rules that govern them

  • Create more informal community recreation opportunities run through the City like: a walking club, tennis group, paddling group, and more to foster camaraderie and enhance quality of life

  • Provide more easily accessible information regarding natural hazards and how to protect property, evacuate, and stay safe

  • Promote the use of green products through purchasing contracts

  • Look for grants (and volunteers) to institute community programs and continue seeking grants for infrastructure and facilities
